The Telegraph Review section last week referred to the new BBC fly-on-the-wall 'The Minster' in terms of its replacement of Rev, which I wrote about previously. I accept that it is wholly unfair to write a review of a programme I have not watched, but in the interests of balance I just wanted to log the fact that I have not and will not be watching it.
A little bit like the initial 'A Rural Parish' these things create a totally false and cosy portrayal of what it means to be Church. It is a bit like putting on a documentary about lighthousekeepers and making it sound then as if that is everything you would need to know about sailing.
It is a good question whether there could ever be a properly good TV programme about life in the sort of Church most real people live in. And if not, why?
