Sadly, plans for most of us with travel in 2020 (and seemingly well into 2021 as well) have been well and truly kiboshed. The Silk Road still has a draw; that mix of history, religions, politics, art and architecture, but this is now stored on the back burner for the time being.
As lockdown eases I may dip into one of my Christmas presents and seek some sort of pilgrimage within the UK. I'm still not convinced that it actually was Saint Augustine who said
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
but even so, it still says something important. The question in my mind as I think about this sort of trip is whether I have lost the ability to do something like this as an act of solitude, especially if I was camping en route.
