In an e-mail Paul asked me about the future of the Gathering. That's still under discussion here with what they do and whether there is somebody here who can do something, but as far as I'm concerned the Gathering will re-appear where we are moving to, and I hope to see it develop in two forms.
Firstly I think I proved to my own satisfaction that a network style Church framed around what people call acts of alternative worship is viable and relevant to teenagers. I would hope to learn more about using IT to connect a community of people who spend time on-line.
Secondly I want to expand up an age group, to see how to grow something that is self-sustaining with its own identity, leadership and creativity.
Plans finally coming together for tomorrow night...
I love the idea from Psalm 137 of singing the Lord's song in a strange land, and we will be using that idea looking at some aspects of the world around us and to what extent we are sold into the world and have therefore sold out our faith.
How can we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?
Are you sitting comfortably? Oh dear, are we too tied in with the ways things work here? Have we forgotten what it is like to call upon God as our strength and comfort?
I love doing worship different. I enjoy doing worship the same for much of the time, but I do enjoy pushing the creative boat out and just going for it.
Tonight is the Gathering again, and hopes of some new people coming seem to be going to be dashed, c'est la vie. However I find this time before worship a bit funny.
I fancied a stab at thinking about praying...and boy, are there some big things going on! We're going to try some stimulating and different ways of praying, and have a bit of peace and quiet as well.
PS Well done to those who went to the Make Poverty History vigil- we'll try to mention that as well...
Left it a bit late to post about what we are doing tonight. I initially started this blog to allow the teenagers who come to dialogue about the plans and then the reviews of the services so that we could get some feedback and community. They don't seem to want to do that, and prefer me texting and e-mailing them directly, and then talking at the end of the worship times, which is as fine as fine can be.
