Lent no 14 - graffiti, Banksy and the Kingdom of Heaven

You've probably been on a train entering one of our larger cities. There are usually patches where there seems to be graffiti everywhere like travelling through a hyperactive art gallery; colours, text, images all fighting for space and attention.

And then there is Banksy...

...whose works of art seem to be gaining in value at auction. They combine elements of subversive humour with a desire to say something about the urban landscape within which we live, and (certainly in the case of his artwork on the security wall erected in Israel-Palestine) break through the barriers that we set up between ourselves.

Banksy uses a guerilla style based on secrecy as well as being a creative opportunist, planting works in art galleries as well as spraying them on walls.

I would love to be a creative opportunist for the Kingdom of Heaven, operating in secret (its not about me after all) to jolt people to a new self-realisation or to make them smile at the pricking of a pomposity.

How might we make a bit of the Kingdom today - guerilla style, secret, unthanked - but a mark left indelibly for others to cherish?
