Plans finally coming together for tomorrow night...
I love the idea from Psalm 137 of singing the Lord's song in a strange land, and we will be using that idea looking at some aspects of the world around us and to what extent we are sold into the world and have therefore sold out our faith.
The centrepiece of tomorrow night is a collage sort of art work. The cetre will be the text from Matthew 6:21, "where your treasure is there your heart will be also". The letters for the verse I would like to see made out using words cut from a newspaper so that it looks like a ransom note. I may put something in a top corner saying something like "is your heart held ransom?". Around the central text we will add excerpts from adverts from glossy magazines.
I will also be trying to use some creative writing. Journalling often seems to be well received; offering space to think and a paper and pencil to write whatever needs to be written. I would also like to do something to encourage some actually poetic writing, echoing the sense that much of the texts we will be using are from the prophets, and poetry is their usual genre. Perhaps fully formed stanzas will be beyond us in the short time available, but perhaps some couplets might be started which we could read as part of the closing worship.
