Memories are made of this....
I enjoyed this site I found by chance with examples of Murphy's Law, and it got me reminiscing about some of those great moments from my career in industry...
Like the time...
I was demonstrating some software in a customer's Board Room. My laptop was plugged into one of those mains sockets in the floor covered by a little brass flap. I tried to unplug my laptop by leaning back in my chair, only for it to flip from under me, leaving a row of potential clients looking across the board table at my feet.
We went to a customers offices to do some software stuff and were carrying kit in from the car. We discovered that they had some good facilities, and so we didn't need the enormous monitor we had brought with us, just in case. I then said (in my best Roy Walker voice from Catchphrase) "oh, its good but its not light". The customer stared at me in astonishment, and my colleague folded up on the floor in hysterical laughter.
I had a very irritating expeditor come and visit. I managed to fob him off and get him back to reception. I returned to my desk and shouted "Yes! Got rid of him!", only to discover he was standing right behind me, having followed me back.
I was explaining some software to a customer in their open plan office. I explained that the software was written in Helsinki. "That's a coincidence", I was told, "George has just come back from there". At this somebody stood up in the next bay and looked over the partitions. "Terve" I greeted him in my best Finnish. "That's not George!", they said rolling on the floor.
Praise the Lord for the gift of laughter...
